Based on your team's current status, rate individually each of the following elements on a scale of 1-10 (10 signifying the highest performance and 1 indicating the lowest).
S:   Clear Strategy:
Consider the following questions to assess the effectiveness of your strategy:
  • What is your team purpose?
  • How committed are the team members to the team purpose?
  • To what extent is the team purpose aligned with the company's organizational vision and mission?
  • How clear are your team values?
  • To what extent do these values guide behavior?
  • Do you have ground rules and to what extent are they effective in governing team interaction?
  • To what extent are the team's responsibilities clear to all team members?
  • Your rating: (10 for very clear - 1 for not clear)      ______

    C:   Clear Roles and Responsibilities:
    Consider the following questions to assess the clarity of your roles and responsibilities:
  • To what extent were you able to select team members based on team requirements?
  • To what extent are team members working on tasks that they enjoy?
  • To what extent do team members meet internal contractual obligations with each other?
  • To what extent are team members' responsibilities clearly defined?
  • To what extent is there clear accountability for specific tasks?
  • To what extent is team member's performance guided by their objectives?

    O:  Open and Honest Communication:
    Consider the following questions as to how open communication is within your team:
  • How effective do you think communication is within your team?
  • To what extent are team members open and honest about their feelings and workload?
  • To what extent are the right communication channels being used correctly (Voicemail, E-Mail, meetings)?
  • If there are conflicts, how effectively are they managed within the team?
  • To what extent are all team members respectful of personality and other interpersonal differences?
  • To what extent do team members listen to diverse points of view and value different perspectives?

    R:  Rapid Response to Changing Times:
    Consider the following questions to assess your ability to respond quickly to changing times:
  • How quickly does your team respond to changes in the environment?
  • To what extent do team members evaluate unconventional or less traditional solutions when faced with challenges?
  • How easy is it for team members to change and adapt to new solutions when new data is presented?
  • To what extent do all team members apply creative problem solving?

    E:  Effective Leadership:
    Consider the following questions to assess the effectiveness of your team leader:
  • To what extent does the team leader vary his/her style depending on the skill level of the team member and the task involved?
  • How often does the team leader provide individuals with positive feedback as well as constructive criticism?
  • How often does the team leader coach team members to provide them with specific guidance for raising team performance?
  • To what extent has the team leader introduced exercises/events to help smooth the team development process?
  • To what extent is the team leader's role "transparent" (not obvious) when the team is performing well?
